Random Topics and a Giveaway

I recently received a new car for my birthday. It's really not NEW new, but it is new to me. The RGH bought me a BMW X-5 for my birthday. We sold my Mazda when I got the BMW.

I have always had a kind of affection for my automobiles. It started with the first BRAND NEW car I ever owned. It was a 1983 Camaro. It was silver and I loved it lots and lots. This was the first car I gave a nickname. It was my Vroom Vroom. Okay, it was corny but that was the point. My previous autos could not Vroom under any circumstances.

Then there was my Sunbird, affectionately called 'The Bird' and my Honda Accord which was always referred to as THE honda. My red VW Jetta was called the Cor'Jette' and our Lincoln was called the Koonster. Then I got the Mazda. I dubbed it the Mazdaratti. It was only two years old when the opportunity came to get the BMW from a family member for a great price. It's a long story but that's the car I have now. Until yesterday, I hadn't come to love the BMW. I knew this because it had no nickname. I wasn't fond of the term 'Beamer' and there was nothing that stood out to spark a name.

Then it happened. It came upon me slowly as I was once again perusing the owner's manual trying to figure out how to work another of the gizmos and gadgets that are on this car. I started thinking it was harder to figure out than a video game...

And so it is ... The X-Box. And another love affair begins.

On another topic, have you asked yourself why the president would give the Queen of England an iPod? Doesn't he have someone to help him shop for gifts? Seriously, give her a Virginia Ham or a Kentucky Race Horse or a Kate Spade purse or a set of American Eagle coins but an iPod? And she already has an iPod. Do you think she'll re-gift it?

I recently purchased a copy of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. I figured with all the talk about what the Constitution says about owning banks and gun control and so forth, maybe I should read the whole thing over and study on it. You know, in case I am nominated for the Supreme Court or something. I have a good chance because I HAVE paid my taxes. All of them, EVERY year. I'm just sayin'...

And while I am musing, what is up with all the magazines going under these days? Have we all stopped reading? I don't know about you but I still like to read an actual PAGE of stuff. I know that the Internet and Kindle and eBooks is the more Earth Friendly way to go but there is just something about a BOOK or an article on PAPER in my HANDS that makes it work for me. I just cannot bring myself to read a book on my computer. Blogs and twitter are about all I can read online. And if it's very long, like more than three paragraphs, it's getting printed, BABY! I can't help it. Am I the only one?

Lastly, I am a lover of coffee. I especially enjoy flavored coffee. Not the kind with syrup in it but the kind that is roasted with flavor. Lately, we had been making regular coffee in the morning. On my most recent grocery shopping expedition, I invested in a pound of Caramel Creme coffee. I made the first pot this morning...

Let me tell you, in the heaven I dream of there is Caramel Creme coffee. OMGOSH! It was divine. I drank an entire pot all by myself. I know it's shameful but I do not care. I plan on doing it again tomorrow.

Speaking of coffee, I have a handmade, insulated coffee sleeve and coaster to give away. It was handmade by me. It's the perfect thing for your morning Starbucks. It even has fun coffee cups on it. See:

Leave a comment here and link this post on your blog or Twitter and you'll be entered to win. I'll leave the contest open till Monday, April 6th at 6 p.m. PST and then I'll draw a winner.

Since there are probably only two of you, your chances are really good.

Blessings,
MaryC

You simply crack me up, woman!!! Serioulsy who DOES do the shopping for the Obamas??? The gifts are so...um...horrible!!! and thoughtless...at least I think. They need a NEW personal shopper! I volunteer YOU. I like my actual coffee black, but I add flavored creamers...my fave at the moment is cinnamon bun...yummy!!! CUTE coffee cozy...Love those things...the cardboard on the starbucks cup just doesn't do it for me. OH...and mags....yea...I've had TWO that I had subs to that have gone under...I will sorely miss both cottage living AND Domino...oh, there is just nothing out there like them!

I really miss Domino *sob* but I'm definitely part of the problem as far as mags going under. As we've reduced, reduced, and reduced our trash I've felt more uncomfortable with subscribing to a plethora of publications. I've cancelled or let most of them run out, the exception at this point being Scrapbooks Etc. and Sunset. They'll probably go soon too.

When I looked at the environmental impact of recycling it made me want to cut our consumption in general as opposed to just shrinking our trash.

On a more selfish and personal note, the quality and content in scrapbook mags has really dropped. For example, Memory Makers this month was awful.

Thanks to Nicola for sharing your blog with me and probably hoards of others will be soon visiting.
I really LOVED this post. I understand your car fetish and simpathize over the mags. I have to agree that the content in most of my favorites left are lacking.
Yeah, big hit the IPOD gift.
Oh and please feel free to enter me into your giveaway. LOL. I have coffee in my veins. Just ask my family. It is mother's milk to me. I shall be back. In fact, I am going to add you to my bloggers list and let others know who you are.

Always blessed,
Blondie

I seriously cannot imaging HRH plugged into an Ipod - that is too funny.
I was sad when Simple Scrapbooks went under, the big one (CK) just gets more and more filled with ads and wasted space.
Soon we'll be living in a world where no one can wrtie with a pen and all reading is done online or listened to!
The coffee sleeve however is adorable.

Actually I read (and heard on NPR) that the British (as a whole) were much happier with this round of gifts than the ones the Obama's gave here (which were, um, bizarre?). The queen even one-arm hugged Michelle, which is sayin' something'.

As for the mags, I'm agreeing with you, Felicia and Nicole on several fronts. First, I hear (from the horses mouth) that PAPER CRAFTS of all things is in financial trouble and actually went to many of the people who got accepted for pub and asked them to take significantly reduced/no payment. Now, I'd be happy with the pub alone, but if the norm is a check, then give the ladies a check. Isn't PC like the biggest card mag out there since CARDS costs an arm and a leg?

And lets go on to Simply Handmade - formerly PaperTrends. Ugh. I got it 'free' with my CARDS sub but it is a 'one read' and then give to a friend kind of mag. Not enough in there that I'd ever want to hang onto, and that is consistent. Cards is getting off-style too. Used to be Cards had a distinctive style of card they pubbed, now its got the same stuff/people as PC. What's the point?

(Sorry, off my soapbox now.)

I did post your blog candy - along with mine - so hopefully we'll BOTH get some takers!
